Kuala Besut Jetty Transfer — Gateway to the Perhentian Islands

Kuala Besut in Terengganu is the only departure point for the Perhentian Islands. Speedboats leave in the morning, and the drive from Kuala Lumpur takes six to seven hours, so most guests travel overnight or in the very early hours. We do this route constantly and know exactly how long each leg takes.

Why an overnight departure works best

Perhentian speedboats typically run from around 7:00 am to mid-afternoon, and the last boats fill up fast. Leaving Kuala Lumpur between midnight and 2:00 am puts you at the jetty for the first departures, with the empty highway making the drive faster and smoother than a daytime run.

If you prefer to sleep in a bed rather than the car, we also run daytime transfers with an overnight stay in Kuala Besut or Jerteh — tell us your preference and we will plan around it.

    Route and stops

    • KL – Karak Highway – Gua Musang – Machang – Jerteh – Kuala Besut
    • Two to three rest stops for toilets, coffee and fuel
    • Alternative east-coast route via Kuantan for guests stopping in Cherating
    • Pickup direct from KLIA or KLIA2 for arriving international flights

    Monsoon season

The Perhentian Islands close from roughly November to February when the northeast monsoon makes crossings unsafe and most resorts shut. If your travel dates fall near the edge of that window, ask us before booking flights — we will tell you honestly whether the boats are likely to be running.

    Frequently asked questions

Can the driver hold our luggage while we island hop?

No, but the jetty operators run secure luggage storage, and your driver will point you to it before you board.

Do you pick up on the return leg too?

Yes. Give us your return boat time and the driver is waiting at the jetty; boat delays are covered by free waiting time.

Is one driver safe for a 6.5-hour overnight drive?

Our drivers rest before overnight assignments and take scheduled breaks. For back-to-back long routes we assign a second driver.
