What the evening looks like
Departure from KL is mid-afternoon so you reach Bukit Melawati with daylight to spare. After the hill, the monkeys and the lighthouse, we drive down to the jetty for the eagle-feeding cruise — brahminy kites diving to the water surface is one of the best wildlife shows in Selangor.
Dinner is at a seafood restaurant on the riverbank; portions are generous and prices are local rather than touristic. Once it is properly dark, we transfer to Kampung Kuantan for the fireflies. The boats there are rowed, not motorised, so the ride is silent and the insects stay undisturbed.
Practical tips
- Bring mosquito repellent and a light long-sleeved layer for the boat
- The fireflies display is brightest on dark, dry, moonless nights
- Photography of the fireflies is difficult — enjoy it with your eyes, not your phone
- Boat tickets and dinner are paid on site and are not included in the transport price
- Suitable for families; children under 5 usually love the monkeys and boats

What time do we get back to Kuala Lumpur?
Most groups are back at their hotel between 10:30 and 11:30 pm, depending on your pickup point and traffic.
Does rain cancel the tour?
Light rain rarely stops the boats. In heavy storms the jetty may suspend trips; if that happens we tell you before you commit to the boat ticket.
